The Orchestra (4)Here are the videos you have had in the previous lesson. Let's listen to the first movie first. Then please do some reviews in the second movie.
Advanced trainingYou will hear all the parts all 5 times in this movie now. I believe you have gotten along with all 5 parts now, so just enjoy singing all or your favorite part(s) with this movie! "Bolero" by M.Ravel I share this beautiful movie made by the New York Philharmonic musicians last year. The music is starting with the snare drum very softly, and various musical instruments join one by one, just like you have been practicing in the previous lessons with "The Orchestra" song.

The Orchestra (3)You have one more part with a high range of voice so I recommend you to do some warming up before you start. Go for it! ViolinViolin is a string instrument. the strings are sounded either by drawing the bow across them or by plucking them. In this song, it sounds like played by the bow.
One by one...You have learned all 5 parts. In this movie, you can hear all the parts are adding one by one. Please try to follow the direction in this movie and sing all the parts in order. Beethoven Symphony No.52020 was the 250 anniversary year of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest composers of all time, and his Symphony No.5 is absolutely one of the most famous not only in his work but also in all of classical music. How many instruments can you find in this music?
The Orchestra (2)Today you have Trumpet and Clarinet part, getting complicated melody, please practice with the repeating. If you feel hard to sing in Do-Re-Mi or lyrics, remember, you can just try to sing with mimic the sound of each instrument like "pa papa pa", or "la la la". TrumpetThe Trumpet is also a brass instrument. it has a higher range than French Horn.
ClarinetYou can see the Clarinet is also a wind instrument, however, looks a bit different from French Horn and Trumpet, it is a woodwind instrument.
It is starting with the sound of TrumpetYou also had a video of this music with the "Line-Riders" version in lesson 2! The Orchestra (1)This is your new song "The Orchestra", please listen to this movie at first. There are 5 kinds of musical instruments in it, can you recognize all of them? If not, no worries at all, you will learn what do each instrument sound like one by one individually.
Drum (Timpani)Drum is a percussion instrument, it can be said to mean a set of "timpani" in this song. Please take a look the first movie, someone explaining about the timpani and you can hear what does the timpani sound like, and then, move on to the next movie. You will have just 2 notes (Do and So) in this part.
French HornThe French horn is a brass instrument. Do you remember you had a "line-rider" video with the music from " Nutcracker" in lesson 14? You can often hear the sound of French horns playing the main melody in "Waltz of the Flowers". This part is staying on the same note (So) all the time in this song, so it is not hard at all!
Can you find French Horns and Timpani?Finding Timpani would be tricky... please focus at 2:13 on the left side of the screen, you will find it! Review of the scale ascending and descendingYou had some training for ascending and descending scales in this term. Let's take a look at each once more in these movies.
Let's sing along, and something will happen...Music for the Christmas!
Joy To The WorldThe Christmas season is coming, so you have the whole part of the song "Joy To The World" today! Please listen to this audio movie. It has 4 voices and you will try 1st and/or 2nd part(s) of this with the following movies. Sing the part 1!Part 1 is the top in the 4 voices as the main melody, so you can easily recognize it. You hear only this part at first twice, please try to sing in Do-Re-Mi. Next, you can try with the 2nd part, and then all the other 3 parts. It might be a bit tricky, however, your part is slightly emphasized so don't worry, just enjoy singing! If you feel hard to sing in Do-Re-Mi for the whole song, you can sing with lyrics (you can find bellow and also with 4th time in this movie), or just simply la-la-la. Did you realize you have an octave interval movement (which you have learned in lesson 10-11) in this melody? Yes, you have one in the 4th measure from the last (Do-Do). Please check it up if you missed it once again! How about part 2?The 2nd part is for advanced people, however, it deserves to try...! You have two times each of the 2nd part only, singing with the 1st part, and singing with all the other part. Hope you enjoy it! 2.
Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns; Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy. 3. No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found. 4. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love. Scale descendingI wonder it is very easy for you to sing scale in Solfege (in Do - Re - Mi). I am quite sure you remember you had a couple of lessons (lessons 1-3) including a bit hard song in lesson 3. (If not, please scroll back to lessons 1-3 for your reviewing!) And now, we will focus on the scale descending today. Do you think it is also easy? ...OK, let's try! How do you feel? If you are not so confident to sing a descending scale, please repeat the movie above until you get along with that. Go for it! And now let's move on to the next step. Please take a look at this movie and follow the directions in it. You will have a couple of lessons with this song "Joy to the World". If this song doesn't familiar to you, please listen to this movie as your preview for the following lessons, thanks!
Octave and UnisonYou learned about what is the octave in the previous lesson. Two sounds related to octave intervals are described as the same notes but at different levels. If the same two notes at the same level, it is unison. Please listen carefully the first movie, you can hear how the octaves and unisons sound like in it. Now watch and listen this movie carefully once. You can hear some octave patterns played by the piano, then repeated by the voice. At the second time, please try to repeat with this singing voice parts. In the next movie, please try to follow the directions to make your voice for the piano sound by unison or octave higher/lower from each sounds. It might be a bit tricky, go for it! Now you will recognize more about octaves in this song, let's enjoy singing! When you wish upon a star, Makes no difference who you are, Anything your heart desires, Will come to you. If your heart is in your dream, No request is too extreme, When you wish upon a star, As dreamers do. Fate is kind, She brings to those who love, The sweet fulfillment of, Their secret longing, Like a bolt out from the blue Fate steps in and sees you through When you wish upon a star Your dreams come true. OctaveThere are so many musical terms. Today you learn the word "octave". Technical terms are hard to understand sometimes, however, it must be very useful if you get known some of them. Now please take a look this movie. You will have some solfege training in the next lesson, however, today you can just enjoy singing this lovely melody... I am sure it is familiar to you! Just one thing... please try to pay attention to the parts of lyrics written by the yellow letters in the movie (bold letters on the lyrics below). All of them are actually "octaves". *"When you wish upon a star" got popular with the classic Disney movie "Pinocchio". Please go to this link If you wouldn't recognize this melody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKh6XxYbbIc When you wish upon a star, Makes no difference who you are, Anything your heart desires, Will come to you. Answer to the quiz
Let's get started with the review of previous lessons about the music in major and minor. Now you got the answer in this movie, please listen, you could find it is very sure as the melody played with harmonies at the second time.
Now you try to play this melody on the xylophone. You need different keys from the one you had in the Lesson 7 even both are in major.
It is going with the order of the keys below, C means C on the very right side which colored by red in this case. AGFG AAA_ GGG_ ACC_ AGFG AAAA GGAG F_
Thinking of the beginning part of this song, you can make sometimes major and sometimes minor if you take the three keys in a row on this virtual xylophone, however, you will also know it doesn't work sometimes (like G-F-E-F-G-G-G). it doesn't sound like major nor minor.
Does all the music belong to one of the major or minor?
However, not the all the music belong to one of the major or minor. Please listen to these movies, how do you feel?
